We run a Beginners’ Course at least once a year with supplementary training through the rest of the year at the training apiary.   Look on the events page to see details for the current year

Our aim is to get our beginners through the winter/spring with theory, then start practical training once the bees have started to fly when the weather is getting a bit warmer. Then in September you will be taken through putting your bees to bed for the winter.

Subjects covered include:

  • Ecology of the honey bee
  • Setting up an apiary and equipment required
  • Inspections and record keeping
  • Swarm control
  • Disease control
  • Honey extraction
  • Overwintering you bees

The course costs £100. No equipment is necessary as we will provide suits and hive tools.

There is a reduced price for children
